Moving Check List
 

Before leaving your old address:

Order a final reading of: Gas meter Electric meter Water meter Telephone   Request termination of services: Newspaper delivery Cleaning sevice Lawn maintenance   Have your refrigerator and other appliances serviced for the trip   Write the utility compaines in the city to which you are moving and inquire about the necessary fees or deposts required for installantion of services. Remit the utility deposits requested with information as to when and where you will want the following services: Gas Electric Water Telephone   Send your forwarding address to the local post office and send change of address cards to insurance companies, magazines, friends and merchants with whom you have charge accounts.   Transfer your insurance Life Hospitalization Automobile Household and personal possessions in order that they will be properly covered in route, and at your new home.   If you're not home schooling, notify the principal of your child’s school about your intent to move. Request a letter from his/her covering the status of your child in school.   Notify your church pastor that you are leaving.   Obtain birth and baptism records of your children.   Obtain all medical records or shots, dental records and eyeglass perscriptions.   If your car or other possessions are not paid for, obtain permission.   Transfer your bank accounts.   Have your present bank arrange reference for establishing new accounts in the city to which you are moving.   Arrange sufficient cash or travelers checks to cover the cost of moving services and expenses until you make banking arrangements in the city to which you are moving. Cash or certified checks is generally required by the transfer company.   Pick up personal items: Shoes being repaired Dry cleaning / laundry Film   Leave the key for your old property and the garage door opener with the real estate agent or neighbors.   At your new address, check on service of: Gas Electricity Water Telephone   Check pilot light on the hot water heater, and heating and air condtitioning units.   Have the refrigerator, washer, dryer and television checked.   Have your stove serviced and the pilot light checked.   Ask the mailman for mail which he may have been holding for your arrival.   Have the new address recorded on your driver’s license.   Visit the city offices and register to vote.   Register your car within a reasonalble length of time after your arrival in a new state to avoid penalty.   Register your children in school or check local home schooling guidlines.   Notify all credit card companies with which you have accounts that you are established at your new residence.   Obtain doctor, dentist and local emergency numbers.
